I am a self-confessed idiot box addict. I watch mainly hindi fictional shows shown on entertainment channels and few non fictional shows shown on news channels during weekends. Of late I have noticed that l am not being able to concentrate. I was wondering the reason behind it- is it my restless mind or very poor content of these fictional shows. I feel it is the extremely banal, listless formulaic serials. To continue running for a long time the serials take recourse to time leap, marriage ceremony,accident with the resurfacing of the same face but a different character . Even the historical shows are not spared. Another fact is that the protaganists are quite bad actors.Of course personal bias also can be attributed to lack of interest. Like I find a leading actors voice very irritating or mascara laden eye make up very annoying. Of course one might ask why I am watching these shows when I don't find anything interesting about these shows. The answer is simple that these serials help me to kill time as well as they become habit. Yes I forgot to mention about the unending twist and turn incorporated in the script to increase the drama is very annoying to say the least. The indian serial makers must learn from their Pakistani counterpart the art of making short and sweet stories.
